Bill Zheng is the co-founder, Chairman and CEO of Investors Direct Financial Group (IDFG), he is also the co-founder and Executive Chairman of Australian Education City (AEC). Bill was educated in Civil Engineering, Computer Science, Business Management and Finance in China, Australia and the USA. After a long corporate career spanning positions in Asia Pacific, USA and Europe, Bill left PricewaterhouseCoopers Melbourne in 2000 to found IDFG, which has now become an integrated investment group with wholly owned subsidiaries in 1) Property Development; 2) Property Construction; 3) Property Funds; 4) Property Advisory; 5) Property Management; 6) Mortgage Finance; and 7) Financial Planning.
Bill’s other passion is to make the world a better place and create a collaborative environment where everyone can live, work, learn and play. This vision has helped to create and shape the mantra and drive behind AEC, which is currently the largest city development project (over 6 million sqm GFA) in Australia.
Vivien Lin was educated in Accounting and Financial Management in China, Australia, Canada & USA and is fluent in both English and Chinese. Over the past 20 years, Vivien’s business career has included extensive corporate experience in various Chartered Accounting firms including KPMG Australia, as well as entrepreneurial and management experience in directing finance and business operations in both Australia and overseas.
Vivien has been instrumental in building IDFG to an integrated development and investment firm comprising property development, construction, funds management and property management.
Ross is the Officer in Effective Control and Director of Investors Direct Financial Group (IDFG) property business units, ID Real Estate, ID Property Advisory (IDPA) & Capitol Property Group, Vice President of ID Innovations and Australian Education City. He holds a full licence in Real Estate in Victoria and New South Wales. Ross studied Applied Science and Photography at RMIT, and completed a Diploma of Property at Academic Pavilion and a Certificate IV in Mortgage Broking from AAMC.
Ross began his outstanding career in the Real Estate industry in 2001 after travelling around the world extensively for more than 3 years. He was the head of the Property Investment Division for one of the largest building groups in Victoria and directed a number of land subdivision and property development projects within his own business before heading up ID Property Advisory (IDPA) in 2010.
Ross is passionate about the environment and how we can improve the quality of life through strong community engagement and lifestyle, all of which are aligned with the vision of Australian Education City.
Adam Carmody is a director of Investors Direct Financial Planning. He holds an Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL 385827) and a CFP (Certified Financial Planner) qualification which is the highest practitioner level for membership in the Financial Planning Association of Australia.
Adam also has a Diploma of Financial Planning through Deakin University; an Executive Certificate in Management; a Graduate Diploma in Accounting through Monash University; a Certificate IV in Training and Assessment through HBA and a Certificate IV in Mortgage Broking from AAMC.
Adam began his career in the Financial Planning Industry in 1999. Before joining Investors Direct in 2010, he worked at Shadforth Financial Services, Vanguard Investments Australia and the ANZ bank.
Adam sat as a member of the Financial Planning Association Chapter Committee for 2 years assisting the industry body with
professional development and advisor training. He has also appeared as an expert advisor on financial planning on 3AW & ABC Radio, and in various property investment magazines and investment newsletters.

Shane is a highly astute and result-driven senior development and construction executive with over 28 years of experience delivering a diverse range of projects throughout Australia. He is a registered Commercial and Domestic Building Practitioner. Shane has managed many project teams from inception through to completion, delivering across a wide range of developments from low, medium and high density residential to commercial, retail and government projects, through to recreational resorts and land sub-divisions. Shane has worked as an executive for over 18 years with a number of development and construction companies and notably delivered several signature projects such as Waterfront City, Docklands, Silverwater Resort, Aerial Apartments, Bendigo Market Place Shopping Centre, Monash Green, Clayton to name a few.
Jan Malmstrom heads up the Property Management Division of Investors Direct. She is one of the most experienced and highly awarded property managers in the country.
During her outstanding career, amongst Jan’s numerous awards, she has also won two of the industry’s top awards: International Property Manager of the Year Award for the LJ Hooker network, and the REIA’s National Property Manager of the Year Award;
an honour very few people in Australia share with her.
Jan was also the first person ever in Australia to complete a Master’s Degree in Professional Studies (Property Management). She also holds a Certificate IV Training and Development. Jan is a regular writer and speaker on property management issues for
The Australian, the Herald Sun, Sold/Leased/Principal Magazines and various radio stations.
Jan had also successfully built her own property management business of almost 1,000 properties from scratch. Through that process she developed an award-winning training system that was eventually introduced to the entire LJ Hooker network of almost 700 offices.
As a landlord of multiple properties herself, Jan not only understands the importance of what a good property manager can do for an investor’s bottom line, but also appreciates the huge responsibility involved in managing someone else’s highly valuable asset that is a rental property.
Otto is a commercially-astute Finance Director and Chief Financial Officer with over 25 years of experience across various market sectors such as civil engineering and construction, manufacturing and import distribution. His key career roles include Chief Financial Officer Akron Roads Pty Ltd and Lund Construction Pty Ltd, Group Financial Controller Fulton Hogan Australia, and Group Treasurer and Taxation Manager Incitec Pivot Ltd and Nissan Australia. Otto has rigid financial acumen and an intimate knowledge of the
development and construction industry.
Otto possesses robust cost analysis skills and has extensive experience in capital raising, mergers and acquisitions having been involved in a number of acquisitions and joint ventures. Otto is also on the governance team to ensure that corporate, commercial and finance governance is maintained across the Australian Education City operations. Otto brings security and comfort to the Australian Education City and IDFG operations and is highly passionate about the success of the Australian Education City vision.
